Motivated by God's love for all, Christians seek to grow in holiness, making loving choices that reflect the dignity of self, others and creation (human and other than human).
Discern the role of conscience in developing and maintaining right relationship, where decisions are motivated by God’s love for all and a call to holiness.
Elaborations
In a pluralist culture there are many ways to make important decisions in the way people live their lives. Making important decisions is influenced by the cultural setting in which people live; including home, school and society.
A conscience is both formed and informed and enables the Christian and those other than Christian to make important decisions that consider the dignity of self, others and all of creation.
For the Christian, making important decisions is also influenced by wisdom and teachings of the Old and New Testaments, as well as Church teaching across time.
Prayer enables discernment when facing an important moral decision, as modelled by Jesus before making important decisions in his life. E.g. Mark 1: 35- 39 (Jesus prays in the early morning before beginning his ministry); Mt 26: 36-45 (Jesus prays in Gethsemane before his arrest - which he knows is coming).
